Skin in the Game

Whether you’re going rugged with a beard or mustache, or keeping it dapper and clean, how you treat your skin matters. You don’t need hours in the bathroom to practice good skin hygiene, and you don’t need lessons from your girlfriend and her 57 skincare products. You just need a simple, reliable routine for keeping your face looking good.

Step one – Hydration

While a good moisturizer will go a long way in fighting off the signs of aging and repairing damage from the environment, you also need to hydrate from within by drinking enough water. This doesn’t mean you should keep 35 half-filled water bottles in your car, but you’d be surprised how many men simply don’t hydrate enough and then wonder why their skin is rough, dry and broken out. You need about 6-8 eight-ounce glasses of water per day, aka a six-pack’s worth of water. If you can drink a 6-pack, you can drink enough water. We are dropping facts right now. Also, alcohol and caffeine will dehydrate you, but we are only human, so just do your best. And if you need a quick fix like we do, just grab some Rugged & Dapper Age and Damage Defense Facial Moisturizer.

Step two – Eating right

The foods you put in your body have a direct effect on the quality of your skin. The skin is an organ of elimination (remember that in science class, we didn’t. Thank you Google), so if you’re filling up on toxins, your skin will detox in the form of acne, blemishes and poor skin texture. Keep it simple by eating lots of fruits and vegetables, along with lean proteins and healthy fats like nuts and avocados. You need around 5-7 servings of fruits and veggies a day to help you look younger. Smoothies are a super easy way to get your fruits and veggies. Try it after a workout.

Step three – Fighting off stress

It may seem unrelated, but keeping a balance in our lives of downtime, fun and pleasure is essential for healthy skin. Stressing out over work, relationships or family issues can throw your hormones into disarray and promote acne as well as premature wrinkles. So basically, don’t follow your Ex on Instagram. And if you accidently double-tap, you’re going to need our Age Defense Eye Complex because you must love stress.

Step four – Sleep as elixir

All the serums in the world won’t be able to counteract sleep deprivation. Getting 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night restores your immune system, encourages cellular repair, prevents unwanted fine lines and wrinkles, and keeps breakouts at bay. Before you ask your buddy to hit you in the head with a hammer to get a good night’s sleep, maybe try exercise and a smart watch to monitor your sleeping patterns. Having a healthy sleep ritual of winding down before bed (this includes a facial routine!) some relaxing music or meditation can do wonders for your complexion, concentration and self-confidence.
